Choosing the Right Pavers for Your Project
During the initial design process, we’ll sit down with you to determine the best pavers for your needs. Some clients come to us with specific ideas in mind, while others want us to help them get inspired. We can show you designs from previous clients we’ve worked with, or we can also show you some of the most common paver patterns. These include:

-
Herringbone
-
Half Diamond Inlay
-
Basketweave
-
Diamond
-
Pencil Line Inlay

We often work with the homeowner, but we’re also happy to coordinate with architects or interior designers.
Laying the Pavers
It’s generally unwise to put pavers directly on top of dirt. Instead, we need to excavate, level, and compact the ground. This allows us to create a base material for the pavers.

Crushed stone is typically the most popular base material, since it offers durability. That said, depending on the specifics of the project, there may be reasons to use sand or compacted soil instead. This is one of the reasons why it’s so important to work with expert contractors: we can ensure you get exactly what your project needs.
Do Pavers Get Hot?
Yes, just like other forms of outdoor flooring, pavers get hot in the sun. There are several things that can be done to mitigate this. The first is choosing a light-colored paver, which reflects heat better than darker-colored pavers.

You’ll also want to look at the material that’s used for the pavers. Flagstone, travertine, and shell stone all absorb less heat than brick.

There are also a few tricks you can follow to keep your pavers as cool as possible. For instance, some homeowners choose to get a misting system, or use a hose to keep the pavers wet. Because direct sunlight creates heat, you may also look to add as much shade to your outdoor area as possible, such as with a roof extension.
Choosing Between Pavers and Concrete
While concrete is the more affordable option, most of our customers tend to prefer pavers, which come with several major advantages. Pavers are:

-
Longer lasting
-
Easier to repair
-
Less slippery

Additionally, they come in a variety of different patterns and colors, allowing us to truly customize your outdoor area. This is key for ensuring you get the exact look you want.

In some cases, you may choose to get concrete pavers.
